We are signatories of the Ukrainian Business Compact, which is a confirmation of our support for the values and principles of Ukraine’s recovery. By joining this agreement, we declare our support for the restoration of Ukraine and its desire to modernize, build a sustainable and flexible economy and emerge from the war as a strong and prosperous state.

We support the recovery and rebuilding of Ukraine, looking for opportunities to attract trade and investment, exchange expertise, free assistance and business activities, including but not limited to the following:

  1. Investing in business opportunities in Ukraine
  2. Working with Ukraine-based companies
  3. Supporting Ukraine-wide development and economic growth

We adhere to the following 4 core principles in supporting long-term sustainable economic recovery and reconstruction of Ukraine:

  1. Investing and behaving sustainably, accelerating the green transition and inclusive growth, in accordance with best international corporate practices
  2. Acting responsibly and reinforcing responsible business practices that are aligned with the highest international standards, including adherence to applicable legislation, support and respect of human rights, equitable and inclusive practices, and prevention of corruption
  3. Implementing best practices corporate governance and working to identify areas where compact signatories and Ukrainian businesses can share capabilities and promote best practices governance in a mutually beneficial way
  4. Respecting all applicable sanctions legislation and regulations

Education and training are a focal point for us. Our policy is to actively engage in nurturing the talents and potential of young individuals, recognizing them as our most valuable resource. Our partners are frequent and sought-after guest speakers at the leading Ukrainian universities.

Margarita Karpenko Margarita Karpenko founded and managed the historical DLA Piper scholarship program for students of Ukrainian universities, giving them valuable access to internships in the firm's offices around the world.

Galina Zagorodniuk Galyna Zagorodniuk contributes her expertise as a Guest Lecturer at the Ukrainian Catholic University with her course “Corporate law and Mergers & Acquisitions” since 2023.

Delphine Nougayrède Delphine Nougayrède has taught comparative law and legal ethics in a number of academic institutions. From 2015 to 2023 she was a lecturer at Columbia Law School in New York where she also conducted research activities on comparative law and financial transparency. She has authored two books and a dozen of research articles published in reputable international journals.

Olga Romanenko From her many years of experience as legal consultant, Olga Romanenko brought a valuable contribution to the Master's Program in Digital Transformation and Business Analytics organized by Kyiv School of Economics where she presented her course as guest lecturer.

Alla Kozachenko Alla Kozachenko taught corporate law, and Galyna Zagorodniuk taught antitrust law at the Legal High School of the Ukrainian Bar Association.

Dmytro Rylovnikov Dmytro Rylovnikov was a member of the judging panel of ELSA student competition. His contribution to the development of the future generation of lawyers included preparation for the cases to be solved by the students, as well as review of the final student's submissions.

For many years,

Margarita Karpenko served as a member of the US-Ukraine Business Council Executive Committee. From 2011 to 2017, Margarita also chaired the Board of the East Europe Foundation. Margarita was a member of the panel of judges of the CEE Legal Matters Deal-of-the-Year competition in 2020-2022 and the Ukrainian Legal Award Lawyer-of-the-Year competition in 2016-2017.

Galina Zagorodniuk contributed her expertise as an Advisory Board member at the Aspen Institute Kyiv (2021-2024) and actively participated in a work of Public Council of the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine (2008-2010 and 2015-2019).

Dmytro Rylovnikov was an active contributor for Ukrainian Branch of International Fiscal Association (IFA). Specifically, Dmytro has conducted number of seminars on various tax topics for Ukrainian tax authorities (as a part of IBFD team and independently). Contributed to translation of OECD Commentaries on the articles of the Model Tax Convention into Ukrainian language to enable access of Ukrainian tax authorities to most recent international rules and interpretations. He was also a Branch reporter and managed preparation of the Branch Report for Ukraine for the Rio de Janeiro Congress of IFA of 2017, which highlighted the development of Ukrainian transfer pricing rules and BEPS actions points, as well as assessed their conformity to international best practices.

Olga Romanenko Olga Romanenko served as IT Committee chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine. During 2017-2019 Olga actively cooperated with a number of Ukrainian state bodies in the development of new draft laws adjusting the existing Ukrainian laws on data protection to the EU requirements. Olga also coordinated the project aimed to support the Government of Ukraine in reforming its approach to funding innovation.

Margarita Karpenko and Galina Zagorodniuk are active members of Women-On-Boards-Ukraine, a non-governmental organization dedicated to supporting women in leadership positions in Ukraine and promoting the presence of women on the boards of directors of Ukrainian and foreign companies. For many years, Galyna has coordinated the activities of the Legal Alliance for Women at DLA Piper Ukraine, an international initiative dedicated to ensuring equality and inclusivity in the legal profession.
